Introduction:

Monkeys are clever, social animals. They are known for running and leaping through trees with ease.Monkeys belong to the group of mammals called primates.Though all monkeys have many similar characteristics and a close relationship to humans, an early evolutionary shift created two major groups today: “old” and “new” world monkeys.

Facts 1:Species

There are around 260 monkey species in the world. Most of them live in trees except for a few who seem to prefer the ground.


Fact 2: Monkey can't sleep at ground

Monkeys do not sleep lying down. To protect themselves from predators, they find a high branch and sleep sitting up. They sleep a little more than us humans do, for 9.5 hours. Nocturnal monkeys like Owl monkeys sleep for as long as 17 hours. 


Fact 3:Largest and Smallest Monkey

The largest monkey in the world is a Mandrill. Mandrills can be found in the rainforests of Africa.The Smallest monkey in the world is a Pygmy marmosets. Pygmy marmosets can be found in the Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Patas monkeys are the fastest primates on Earth. They can move at speeds up to 34 mph.
